In this week's tip, we pick our jaw up off the floor to address a question we saw from an online poster. In a nutshell, the poster says they want to convert from a condo to an HOA because they think it'll provide insurance benefits.
That's unusual, but it's not the jaw-dropping part. What we haven't seen before is that the poster wants to know if they can make that change just by pulling up their governing documents, doing a search for all instances of the word condo, and swapping it out with the
word HOA.
What a great idea! Why hasn't anybody else thought of this simple way to amend the documents?!
Click on the arrow below to hear a short clip in which two of HOAleader.com's experts—Carolina Sznajderman Sheir, a partner at Eisinger Law in Hollywood, Fla., which represents 600-700 associations throughout the state, who is board certified in condo and planned development law by the Florida Bar, and Michael Kim, of counsel at Schoenberg Finkel Beederman Bell Glazer in
Chicago, who represents about 500 associations—discuss whether they believe this change would achieve the insurance benefits the poster thinks it might.
