There’s No Need to Ignore the Holiday Spirit at Your HOA

=================================================================

In this week’s tip, we chase the bah humbugs out of your holidays!

No matter what holidays their residents celebrate, many HOAs use the end of
the year holidaypalooza as an opportunity to hold an event to foster a
stronger sense of community.

“Holiday events are really an important time each year in the condos and HOAs
we manage,” notes Tim O’Keefe, director of KW Property Management &
Consulting in Miami, which manages about 300 community associations in
Florida.

“In Florida, people start to come here for the holiday season,” he adds. “For
many, it’s the first time to get back with neighbors and socialize. Many
associations use the opportunity to have residents get together and
celebrate with parties that include the entire community.”

Perhaps you should do the same.

If you haven’t planned a community event for the holidays, you still have
time for this year. And you have tons of time for next year. Your event doesn’t
have to be elaborate, but it should be one that brings homeowners together.

And while it seems in today’s polarized world, any event can turn into a cause
for tension, our experts say they haven’t seen good intentions with holiday
events be turned into a negative.

“My impression is that a number of my clients do have holiday parties or
events,” reports Michael Kim who, through his Chicago law firm, Michael C.
Kim & Associates, represents about 500 associations. “They don’t seem to
have any problems because they don’t tell me about them. If there were some
controversy before or after, I’d hear about it.”

That’s also O’Keefe’s experience. “We’ve had no communities where it’s
been a problem,” he says. “People are very respectful of different beliefs.
If you see a Christmas tree, you also see things like a menorah nearby.”
